TATTOOS
|
I
worked professionally as a tattoo artist for about five years at Sin
on Skin in Rhode Island. It was a freakin'busy assed street shop where
I worked about 60 hours a week.I worked with a great bunch of guys,some
really talented fuckers who taught me a lot about tattooing. We had a
lot of god damned fun together, most of it legal. As i've said elsewhere
on this site, medical problems sidelined me for a while and I am in no
condition to deal with the day to day of an environment like that anymore
as it was the most stressful job I have ever had in my life.I know,as
one of the guys used to say,we should've been running around with daisies
shooting out of our asses every day but such was not the case.Canvas
and paper do not move, scream, cry, pass out, puke, piss or shit themselves
when you go to work on them.and even if it did,you can always paint
over a fuck up or just throw a piece of paper away. So,as much as I miss
doing tattoos, from time to time,I do not miss any of the bullshit associated
with it.Maybe that's selfish of me but,fuck it,at least i'm honest about
it.I will on occasion still work on skin for family and a few close
friends. My brother Mike being at the top of that list as he was the
one who got me started in the first place. He tried to get me to pick
it up for years actually but,it wasn't until I got my first,a portrait
of my Dad after he passed away, that I started to look into it.I was
amazed by what I saw being done out there.I grew up seeing Dad and his
friend's half assed scratched in india ink tattoos y'know. But the art
of it has come so damn far.I had to try my hand at it.So,here's some
photos of some of my work.I've probably worked on over a thousand people
by now but here are a few of my favorites that I managed to remember
to take pictures of. |

I really enjoy the challenge of a coverup. Here's one I've been working on for a while.Another artist had come up with the design and did some preliminary work on it but, he moved away and now the project is mine.I did all the black and grey work on it and soon I'll have some color examples to show you as well. It's on my friend Ray Smith of Red Wolf Tattoos and he looks like what everyone expects a tattoo artist to look like. He's covered with a mish mash of experiments of his own doing as well as by countless others.I've been doing my damndest to make a couple of full sleeves out of it all for him.See links page fore more on Red Wolf Tattoos. |
