The Jim Charette Sound Project was officially started about two months ago when I approached a few friends about letting me use some of their lyrical skills and vocalizations for me to mix in with some of my muzak.I've always considered it muzak as I do not consider myself a full fledged musician and thus my moniker at times as UJS(Uncle Jimmy Sux).I have a new perspective now though, thanks to this project(and that disc will be coming soon).Music has always been an integral part of my creative life but I always saw it as kind of a hobby. Now,I'm the first person to bite into the ass of anyone who thinks of my art as my hobby, you wouldn't curl up in a ball and die if someone took away your hobby.Well, damages incurred in a fire last year left me without a keyboard or a guitar for months and I felt that same loss and resultant depression that any artist knows all too well once the artist's block kicks in.Once I replaced the equipment,I made a promise to myself that I would find the time to work on something everyday and,for the most part,I have.I latched on to the name,The Jim Charette Sound Project, half jokingly, once I started mixing in the various tracks that I'd recieved. The more I said it though, the more it made sense.I don't consider these 'songs' so much as pieces of art, sound sculptures if you will.I am not a performer, once I record these improvised tracks I will never play them again.I wouldn't want to repaint the same painting over and over again.I am less interested in performing them than I am in creating them. But I do have the incessant need to share them and that's why I've decided to do just that. So,starting today,I will post one new piece every day for a year and then,at the end of the year, take that big pile of sounds, organize them into some kind of categories and release them all on disc.Who knows, maybe by then, somebody might be insane enough to buy some(and all apologies to my legions of fans out there-all 25 of you.).So,please check them out and,if you enjoy them, tell somebody you know about The Jim Charette Sound Project. THANKS |
