video campfire journals

As you may've already guessed by now,I don't have an extremely positive view of 'humanity'...I often find myself saying that,if we were indeed more humane, then there wouldn't be any need for humanitarian awards.I can fully appreciate all the niceties of our shared experiences here. The newborn babies, the flowers, the sunsets and all the other hallmark moments....It's just that, for every one of them,I also see there's a baby that's either been shaken to death or left in a dumpster, there's thousands of bouquets of flowers placed on the freshly dug graves of innumerable victims of wars and other random violence and for every inspiring sunrise there's always the promise of a mushroom cloud just over the horizon. Many people have asked me how I can live feeling this way.The Video Campfire Journals is one way for me to get those thoughts out of my head.It came together over five years as a mix of random images and ideas that had no particular direction. One day,a neighbor of mine drove past, who I've called Mr.Man since he was about ten years old,and the thought flashed through my mind,"Mr.Man is a driveby shooting just waiting to happen".At that point everything seemed to fall into place for me in regards to this project. The writing continued from there and this has become a statement, under the guise of random journal entries, about where,I feel,we are as a species, for good or for bad.I have been circulating it around to various publishers and have had a few bites. If I can ever find a publisher you will find out about it here but, until then, check out some of the work and let me know what you think.
